Peptide Therapy in Portland, OR

Peptide Therapy

What is Peptide Therapy?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. In the body they act as messengers, helping cells communicate about repair, inflammation, and recovery. Peptide therapy uses selected peptides as part of a medical treatment plan.

At Ortho-Regen in Portland, Dr. Natalie S. Mesnier, a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, may include peptide therapy in a nonsurgical plan for musculoskeletal injuries and painful joint, ligament, or tendon conditions. It can be used on its own or alongside orthobiologics such as PRP, MFAT, shockwave, or MLS laser therapy when that combination fits your diagnosis.

What are the Benefits of Peptide Therapy in Portland, OR?

Peptide therapy may be used to support healing in injured or painful musculoskeletal tissue. Possible benefits include:

  • Support for muscle, ligament, and tendon recovery
Peptides act as messengers that can influence how cells repair tissue. For patients recovering from a strain, sprain, or overuse injury, peptide therapy may be used to support the body’s own repair process.
  • Help with joint and soft-tissue inflammation
Some peptide protocols are used to help calm inflammation in and around a joint. That may ease pain and stiffness from arthritis or from extra-articular problems in the ligaments and tendons.
  • A nonsurgical option
Peptide therapy does not replace surgery when surgery is needed. For many patients it can be part of a nonsurgical plan, alongside physical therapy, activity changes, or other office-based treatments.
  • May be combined with orthobiologics
Dr. Mesnier already uses PRP, MFAT, shockwave, and MLS laser therapy. Peptide therapy may be added to that plan when she thinks an extra signal for healing would help, rather than used as a stand-alone trend treatment.
  • Treatment aimed at your diagnosis
The peptide plan, if one is recommended, is based on the exam and on whether the problem is inside the joint or in the tissues around it. The goal is better function, not a generic wellness protocol.

What are the Indications for Peptide Therapy?

Dr. Mesnier may discuss peptide therapy if you have:

  • Muscle, ligament, or tendon injury that is slow to heal
  • Joint pain or arthritis symptoms that have not settled with activity changes, physical therapy, or other conservative care
  • Soft-tissue inflammation around the foot, ankle, knee, shoulder, or other joints
  • A recovery plan after injury or surgery where additional support for tissue repair is being considered

Peptide therapy is not a substitute for a diagnosis. An exam, and imaging when needed, still come first so the problem inside or outside the joint is identified correctly.

Peptide Therapy Procedure

Treatment is individualized. After reviewing your history, exam, and any imaging, Dr. Mesnier will discuss whether peptide therapy is appropriate and how it would be given for your condition.

Depending on the plan, peptides may be administered by injection or by another route she recommends. If an injection is used, the site is prepared and the peptide is delivered to the targeted tissue, with ultrasound guidance when that helps accuracy.

Your visit length and the number of treatments depend on the condition being treated.

After Peptide Therapy

Most patients can return to usual daily activity after treatment. You may have mild soreness at an injection site for a short time. Dr. Mesnier will tell you whether to limit sport, heavy loading, or anti-inflammatory medication in the days after treatment, especially if peptide therapy is combined with PRP or another injection.

Is Peptide Therapy Right for You?

Peptide therapy may be considered if you want a nonsurgical option to support healing and you are a candidate after evaluation. It is not right for every injury or every patient. If another treatment is a better fit, such as physical therapy, shockwave, laser therapy, orthobiologic injection, or surgery, that will be discussed with you.
